Anyone who knows me well enough can tell you that I am 100% more of a Star Trek fan than a Star Wars fan. But alas, I am very much a Disney fanatic, so recently I took a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to checkout their new “land” based on the Star Wars movies. They call this area of the park “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” and it is supposed to depict the Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu. You can walk through the marketplace, eat at multiple restaurants, take photographs in front of a few spacecrafts, see some droids, and possibly meet some friendly characters from the franchise.
The ride that is open to enjoy at the moment is called “Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run” and is a really cool way for park patrons to interact with the Star Wars story line. Each ride is comprised of six guests: two pilots, two gunners, and two engineers. The people selected as pilots are navigating, the gunners shoot at anything that gets in the way, and the engineers fix everything that the pilots and gunners mess up (basically) in order to smuggle the shipment of -whatever- to the place it needs to go. It’s fun. I was able to ride twice, once being a gunner and once being a pilot. I enjoyed the pilot spot best. My friends thoroughly enjoyed being engineers as well.
In my opinion, they do a pretty dang good job making everything look dirty and “realistic” when it comes to the feel of the Star Wars universe. But with only one ride in the whole land (there is at least one more in the works but is yet to be open for business) it doesn’t take a whole lot of time to see everything. I did take a bunch of pictures though, and fully enjoyed my trip there.
Have you been to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge yet? Is it everything you hoped it would be? Do you think it’s lacking in some area? What are your thoughts? Leave me a comment below, and check out my post from my last trip to Hollywood Studios back in April.
