Getting a puppy has completely changed my life and I am so happy with it! Some things about having a dog are so cute, and they are so playful and fun, but this post is more about the organizational and administrative aspects of being a dog owner. I’ve compiled a list of all the things that make our lives easier and more enjoyable.
I have, quite possibly, the most adorable dog in the world. But doesn’t everyone say that? I wanted to compile a post about what I have found works best for me and my pup when it comes to food, toys, and accessories. (I have linked everything at the bottom of the post!)
First things first, my dog is called Gunner, Gunny for short, and he is a Havapoo (Havanese and Poodle.) He will be 2 years old in July and is as wild as they come. I am the luckiest dog mom because he’s the sweetest thing, he loves to play, he needs to meet every person who walks by, and he tries to chase every moving car he sees.
Because of his need to bark at and chase cars, taking him for long walks can be quite exhausting, for both him and for me. Because of this, I decided to get him a dog stroller. I like that I can walk with him until he gets too tired and then I can put him in the stroller and we can both enjoy the walk in the beautiful Florida sunshine.
When walking him, he will pull on the leash, so I got a Gentle Leader head collar to use when I walk him. It has helped a lot. He doesn’t necessarily like it very much, but it keeps him from pulling and that is all that matters. These collars are wonderful and they don’t hurt the dog at all.
For food, I used to feed him the Blue Buffalo Wilderness hard food. I liked that is was natural and had no grains (grains can cause puppies to have allergies). But once he was 1.5 years old, I moved him to a less expensive grain-free hard food because he is eating a lot more now and dog food can be expensive! We didn’t have a problem switching his food at all.
For treats, I give him the Blue Buffalo training treats. They are called “Blue Bits” and they come in chicken, beef, and salmon flavors. I also give him pork hide roll bones to chew on. He LOVES them. I get them at Wal-Mart.
The toys he likes the most are the sea creature toys by KONG, and a rubber pig that honks. The rubber pig is from Wal-Mart and he is on his second one. It’s silicone, so he doesn’t chew through it. As a dog mom who is also a full time law student, I try not to get him too many toys that make noise.
Target recently did a collaboration with Vineyard Vines and I fell in love with the stuff they had for dogs. I got Gunny a collar, leash, dog bed, and harness! Now he’s a preppy little thing and he is so cute!
